There are abundant recreation activities in Iberia Parish. The city and parish both operate numerous public park facilities that include tennis courts, swimming pools, basketball courts, walking tracks and softball fields. A bowling alley, health clubs and movie theaters can also be found. Golfing, fishing, hunting, water-skiing, boating, off-road motorcycling and ATV trails and camping facilities can be found in abundance. A skateboard facility is located in New Iberia’s City Park.

Louisiana is known as “The Sportsman’s Paradise”. Our close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico makes saltwater fishing a popular pastime, and freshwater sport opportunities can be found in abundance due to our numerous bayous, lakes and of course, the Atchafalaya Basin. Fishing, hunting and boating activities can be found in abundance. Hunting opportunities for ducks, deer, rabbit, dove and quail are plentiful in this area. Much of the nearby Atchafalaya Basin is open to the public for hunting. The coastal marshes offer excellent duck and goose hunting possibilities. Lake Fausse Pointe State Park is nearby and features an ideal place for family outings, fishing and camping.

Arts and Culture Galore!

Facilities and organized groups are also available to those interested in karate, roller-skating, bowling, horseback riding, flying model airplanes and even ballooning. Iberia Parish has a thriving art community that allows artists the opportunity to display their paintings or other works to an admiring public for fun or profit.

Downtown New Iberia Art Walk, The Farmer’s Market, and SugArena all host events regularly throughout the year. The Community Concert Band performs several times each year to those who enjoy the Big Band sound. Community theatrical productions and musical concerts are presented several times a year by the talented artists and musicians that call Iberia Parish home.

We Are All About Family

Iberia’s a great place to raise kids too!

Fifteen playgrounds and parks are maintained by the City of New Iberia. The largest park, New Iberia City Park, has a community center with a gymnasium, dressing rooms, game rooms, meeting rooms and kitchen facilities. The Community Center is the headquarters for the many programs run by the City of New Iberia’s Recreation Department.

Youth programs include basketball, softball, tennis, archery, baseball, swimming, crafts and special programs. A summer camp program offers day-long activities to young children who are supervised by qualified and responsible counselors. Adult programs include tennis, volleyball, basketball, flag football, soccer and exercise classes.

League softball is very popular in Iberia Parish, and the Recreation Department organizes softball leagues that participate in the Amateur Softball Association, United States Slowpitch Softball Association and Industrial League competition programs. In addition, there are numerous playgrounds, picnic areas, tennis courts, swimming pools and recreation centers located throughout the Parish.
